City of Miracles
The Divine Cities - Book #3
by Robert Jackson Bennet
The Divine Cities series (starting with "City of Stairs") takes place in a secondary world fantasy, where the Divinities have all been killed by the Kaj, an ancient warrior. The story takes place post-killings, when all of the miracles created by the Divinities have vanished, causing continent-wide mass destruction and chaos, an event known as The Blink.
I won't go into the series, but I will say that it's fantastically written and well worth reading the entire series. City of Miracles is the final book in the trilogy, and it's fantastic. The first book follows Shara Komayd, an academic who knows a thing or two about miracles. The second book follows Mulaghesh, a strong military woman who don't need no man. A total badass. And the third book follows Sigrud Harkvaldsson, who is basically a Viking... with a mysterious secret that even he doesn't know.
If I had one complaint, it's the names. They're weird. They seem to mix in Russian and Nordic and other areas of the real world, but as I mentioned earlier, this is a secondary world fantasy, so those names seem sort of out of place.
But other than that... it's an absolutely fantastic series, with each book better than the last. Two thumbs up. Probably my favorite book that I've read so far this year.
