An Inheritance of Ashes
by Leah Bobet
I picked this up because an author I follow on Twitter (I believe it was Dan Wells) recommended it. That's literally all I knew about it.
I'm not sure what I expected, but it turned out to be a pretty fun story. The writing makes it a little plain that it's a debut novel, and the story feels more like YA than adult fantasy, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It's dark yet hopeful and tugs at the heartstrings. It's not really my thing, but if you're a fan of young adult fantasy, this might be up your alley.
