Well, this was certainly different from anything else I've read in a long time. It's Donnelly's debut novel, a spy-thriller starring a gay secret agent Cyril who schemes to protect his lover, Aristides, who happens to be a smuggler. Toss in a burlesque dancer, some Bond-style spy action and intrigue, and you've got yourself a winner.

Donnelly's writing is top-notch, almost like poetry flowing across the page. The plot was a little hard to follow, I thought, but that could have been because I read this just before bed when I was often drifting off to sleep. That said, the characters are superb and the overall story and world are enchanting.

This isn't really my type of book, but if you're into spy thrillers and lots and lots of sex, you'll enjoy this one.
